RichardPorter 5pts Thank you Mr. Klemke for the honorable mention of the Skins being the last ones in. To the rest of you clowns how do you not even mention the defending NFC East returning all but one starter on both sides of the ball with the league's number one "rushing" attack from last year and not even give them a wild card. The same team team that came within one TD (thanks Mr. Cruz) of sweeping the entire division last year and one key injury from beating Seattle in the playoffs and we can't even get a wild card? With one one of the NFL's most dynamic QB's and probably the best backup as well? All i can say is watch and learn your words wil be eaten. jgsiegel 5pts Klemko has the Pack missing the playoffs, Vrentas has them winning the Super Bowl. I have no idea what to expect from us this season, it'll be a roller coaster either way. ukjets 5pts The digs at the Jets are unrelenting. Falcons will have an easy win? Sure, let's wait and see, shall we? You think Rex forgot how to coach a defense? MattGardner 5pts I think for anyone blasting the Patriots pick, just look at the 2006 season. That year, Tom Brady was throwing to"star" players such as Reche Caldwell, Chad Jackson, Daniel Graham and Ben Watson. Yet with a strong defense and running game, New England went 12-4, still made it to the AFC title game and was an interception away from making it to the Super Bowl. There's a lot of logic in Peter's pick though it might not seem that way from all of the talent the Patriots jettisoned on the offensive side of the ball this off-season. These preseason picks are a crap shoot anyways. When in doubt, go with the team that you know is going to be there. Smart pick Peter. VijayGopalakrishnan 5pts watch out for Texans and Seattle. CopperDD 5pts This year will be,at least according to the Super Bowl website, a year of the first two's. The first time that two teams will host the game. The first time that two states will host the game. And as an added bonus, per the farmers almanac, the first time that the game will be played in two feet of snow. With that in mind a Super Bowl prediction based on nothing of substance but simply a hunch. Forty seven Super Bowls have come and gone without a host team taking part. The odds are that it has to happen sooner or later so why not this year. And while I don't mean to further dump on the NY Jets, I'm reasonably certain it won't be them. Although it is probably likely they will have named their starting QB by then. That leaves my NY Giants to be both host and participant. As far as their opponent goes, the odds on a different subject are finally bound to change. There have been 348 brother combinations in the history of the NFL. That none have ever competed against one another on footballs biggest stage seems almost implausible. The odds on that ending have got to kick in sooner or later too. Perhaps last years Harbaugh Coaches bowl was just a little warmup. This might have all happened a couple of years ago when Payton was still in Indy. But the the football Gods realized that 2013 would be the year of the Manning brothers Direct TV F.O.Y.P. commercial and decided to delay it till this year. As far as the game itself is concerned, sadly for me as a Giant fan, the odds on something else are going against Big Blue. And that is that John Fox is due. An underappreciated coach finally gets over the hump. Pancho Villa 5pts Hail to the Redskins. BrownieDog 5pts Buy the man a brew... for his prediction "Worst to first?" of the Browns! (I'm for Cleveland all the way, but don't you think KC is the obvious choice here? with their talent, easier schedule, and rejuvenatee Andy as coach?) HA! He goes on to say, "The Browns could have a playmaking defense, and their offense, though deprived of aerial weapons and depth, at least has the right style of players for Norv Turner’s highly accomplished system." Again, I like the song he's singing, but just look at the predictions in this article -- The Browns are the only team in the AFC North NOT picked to win their division! RyanMcNamara 5pts The AFC is a tough conference? DavidWitcraft 5pts It's interesting that fantasy football roundups have fairly unbiased appraisals by players and team units(offense/yards, defense/pts. allowed, etc), but this article is the wildest stab at pure fantasy I've seen this season. We get it, you guys live in the Northeast! The Patriots haven't demonstrated a consistent defense in what seems like a decade or so... Providing Brady can light up 40+pts/game with mostly rookie skill players, it's a miraculous leap of faith to pick the Pats first in the AFC.... So record setting offense and non-existent defense in the NFC South equals home in December, but in the AFC East it equals superbowl Championship? Then there's that Buc's pick, not even Greg Schiano's mom is laying any cash on that! I expect the Ravens team we see this year will closely resemble the post-Cameron unit that blew through the playoffs. Broncos and Ravens at the top of the AFC. The Texans need to start showing up for 60 minutes in road games against playoff teams! SF and Seattle in the NFC. NO will be there, Atlanta and Green Bay may make brief appearances, but neither has made themselves better since last year. The NFC East? Someone has to get 8 or 9 wins and take that division, but that's about all. Gs1 5pts It would help if Peter would actually list how the Patriots, whom have a lesser running game, lesser OLine, lesser DL, lesser LBs, lesser DBs, lesser WRs (yes, this group is BETTER then last year's), lesser kicking game, lesser depth then the 49ers and somehow they're picked to win the Super Bowl & the 49ers are supposed to suddenly regress? The coaching is a push & the QBs are too within their systems (welcome to the 21 st century Brady). So what gives? The Seahawks have yet to prove they can win on the road and until then, there's no way he can have them winning on paper, what's his justification? That suddenly Caroll will magically become a better coach then Harbaugh? He couldn't win in college against him even with double the talent, and he's 1-3 in the pros. So what's the justification? When they play that "big game" in Seattle, the Seahawks will have two of their starting DLinemen hurt or suspended for cheating & their great FA acquisition is out for that game too, so good luck with that. And they sure as hell aren't winning at Candlestick even if they have everyone. So just goes to show that Peter's a homer because of his Patriot connections, cause if you remember, Caroll's a former Pat's coach that took them to the playoffs. mrfrogburger 5pts Better MMQB b/c no tedious writing. Keep it that way. It's the Web, not a paper. JamMarani 5pts This is retarted Maplesyrup 5pts So the Colts were the luckiest team in NFL history last year, becoming the first 11-5 team to have a negatuve point differential, went 8-1 in games decided by one touchdown or less (which, without fail, comes back to .500 over a period time with the exception of teams quarterbacked by all-time greats) and made no significant offseason additions that will improve the team drastically....and they not only make the playoffs but go to the Super Bowl! Klemko, you are a piece of work. MarcSchenker 5pts Why do the so-called most reliable football writers in the country wind up being so utterly illogical. Then you go to nfl.com and see articles on the most overrated players -- from the corporate arm of the NFL no less. Of course, not one of these predictions from ESPN and this place are even remotely accurate for the simple reason that pro football is the most unpredictable sport played today. My God, the Colts and Steelers in the Superbowl? Or making it a sport in itself to degrade Joe Flacco when he's won more games in the last 5 years -- 63 -- than any QB in the NFL. But they love their stats when the only one that counts is the one that says "W" and "L." Guess we'll have to put up with this again for another year. JeremyJanishewski 5pts Nobody picks the Bears? The best defense and special teams in the NFL. If they improve 20% on offense they can roll with anyone. And I'm a Colts fan. Seriously, the Steelers wont even make the playoffs let alone win that division. Wow, just WOw. rnowak2 5pts Across the board these picks are awful, culminating in Bob Klemko's abomination. Boo-urns 5pts This site is unreadable. Whoever designed it ought to be fired. Joe R2 5pts These picks might be even worse than ESPN's.... That's hard to do... douglasdfresh 5pts hey wait, you used 'Redskins' in your article....here come the PC police. First and only time I click on this website. HTTR and you PC fools can watch your 'hits' bottom out as people realize what garbage this writing is. Northof53rd 5pts PK is becoming so predictably white-bread: in his world, can anyone be more heroic than Tom Brady or Drew Brees? this is Monday Moaning Dunkin' Doughnuts news....I miss Dr. Zplus you can't read these articles without an overhead projector decredico 5pts a lousy site that is befitting king's horrible writing KeysSteven 5pts September SB picks are pie-in-the-sky, but these 'Odd Ends' are pure huckleberry:Jenny's NFC winner, Green Bay: Rodgers' receiver-corps is lesser, run-game hoping for surprise and that once vaunted defense (White & Butler) now will let Kaep Krusader run about as far as Sheboygan, just gave pay-cut to their best D-man, AJ Hawk.Robert's AFC winner, Indianapolis: Inspired play in '12 but Colts themselves probably dropped jaws on this pick. Luck looks like a gamer but his INTs & fumblitis show there's maturing in store. Pagano needs time to re-acquaint, put his stamp. In time. JumboJim 5pts With a ton of witty, smart and erudite sports writers around, why did Peter King ever hire Klemko? Nothing against his picks, but he hasnt written anything of value to this site. I am mystified. Compared to Bedard or Jenny Vrentas or Andy Benoit, he is pretty ineffectual in addition to being dull as a doorknob.Maybe he is Peter's secret weapon, about to be unleashed on us unweary readers, once the season starts. Marchoir 5pts Looks pretty reasonable, except Denver and New England should be switched. Marchoir 5pts Griffin doesn't qualify for comeback player, as he was playing in Washington's final game last season. He didn't miss any games. Nice try though. Stevo1 5pts The 'Hoodie' has never won a SB that he didn't cheat in. His streak continues as the Pats don't reach the SB, but Denver does. MMoney0021 5pts AFC1. Texans2. Broncos3. Bengals4. Patriots5. Colts6. ChiefsAFC Championship - Bengals over Patriots RichardPorter 5pts @ukjets might as well he forgot or never knew how to coach anything else...just sayin' aaron.h.lange 5pts @Gs1 on what planet do the pats have a lesser (sic) running game? 200 yds less than the 49ers, 8 more td's, and led the nfl in rushing 1st downs... Ridley and Vereen have another year of seasoning, and throw in Blount for short yardage and rz touches, you most certainly will see a top 5 rushing performance. They must have a poorer offensive line to put up those numbers right? Oh and I forgot to mention the 5 more fumbles the niners had. hmmm... DavidWitcraft 5pts @Gs1 Carroll was the defensive Coordinator for the last SB winning 49ers team too! Much like the Ravens, Seattle didn't get it together until late in the season. Picking them ahead of the 49ers, given Harbaugh's record over the last 2 years is optimistic. The SIers all smoke that Patriots laffy taffy! Maybe coz they can't get good weed like we have out west? Just thinking out loud! gyffesme 5pts As is not knowing how to spell "retarded." JeremyJanishewski 5pts @Maplesyrup I agree, I like the Colts, but yeah, superbowl talk is a little crazy. They are good enough for a wildcard berth in a weak AFC though, but still a year or two away from seriously competing. Kevin11 5pts @JeremyJanishewski The problem with duh Bearssssssss is a shoddy O-line a,d a very horrible 2nd & 3rd string defense. Are you a homer? I mean, NOBODY at SI even considered those losers. MarcSchenker 5pts @rnowak2@rnowak2 Agreed. Where does the so-called premier sports source in America get these amateurs? And who is the idiot who did the art direction? MarcSchenker 5pts @Boo-urns They're new layout is the work of someone who doesn't realize he's on the internet. Full page, full color backgrounds are the work of amateurs. morejunk 5pts @Northof53rd Testify! I don't follow football too closely but I could always hold my own in a football conversation just because I read Dr. Z. Now it's PK and the mini-PKs.Speaking of missing good football writers: What happened to Don Banks? beekay31 5pts @KeysSteven Rodgers' WR corps is lesser? They lost Jennings, who played 5 rusty games last season, and Driver, who had done absolutely nothing his final two years in the league. Keep stretching. Their D returns, Perry, Gibson, and Jolly, all bonafide run stoppers, and jettisons the awful Walden. AJ Hawk isn't nor has he ever been remotely considered GB's best anything... below average member of the D, actually. You clearly know nothing about GB. believemoore 5pts @Marchoir He missed the Browns game. Also, Peterson was a candidate for Comeback Player of the year last year... but I agree with you, if you played that much the season before you can't really be a "Comeback" player. I designate that spot for a guy that was maybe out a whole year with an injury (Peyton last year) or someone that has been locked down on a horrible squad and then goes nuts-o on a new squad (maybe Steven Jackson this year?) Something like this... MarcSchenker 5pts @MMoney0021 You should write for this magazine. JeremyJanishewski 5pts @Kevin11 @JeremyJanishewski Seriously, is it so hard for adults to talk about sports without calling people garbage like homers and losers? Does that really make you feel better? Anyway, I stand by what I posted. Those "losers" have the best D and special teams in football. The O-line looks to be better with the 2 picks and 2 free agency pick-ups, they have some more talent at TE and more options at receiver with one of the best all purpose backs in Forte, and a strong power back in Bush for short yardage and goal line situations. They already had the number two QB-receiver duo last year with Cutler and Marshall. They finished 10-6 last year with a worse offense. Any opinions of your own you want to share, or do you just want to call me names from the safety of a keyboard? Boo-urns 5pts @MarcSchenker@Boo-urns1) It's "their" not "they're". 2) Can't tell if you're kidding, so I'll assume you're not. This site is really unnavigable. The fonts and sizes are so large as to make this whole thing a mess to scroll through. I don't want to read 25 point font long text articles or have to scroll down 10 feet of screen to read a relatively short article. MarcSchenker 5pts @morejunk @Northof53rd Banks is the only reliable writer at SI by a long run. Of course they leave out his predictions. KeysSteven 5pts @beekay31 @KeysSteven Nothing ("about GB")? That's a child's retort. And who said anything about Driver? Former great, but Don hasn't been considered part of "Rodgers' WR corps" in nearly 4 years. Just fact you mention DD in your bratty spew shows you're a GB (and TT) 'homer,' and pretty lame one, at that."(R)un stoppers" in a pro-Packers spew, after Kaepernick's run show in crunch time / PS '13? If you'd just dropped Burnett's name (87 / 35), who edged Hawk in total tackles (81 / 39) in '12, I'd concede a point or two, but even that was beyond your grasp. What's less than "know(ing) nothing about GB?'' That'd be "beekay31." SportsGuru 5pts @MarcSchenker @MMoney0021 No he shouldn't, I hope that was sarcasm, because he has no idea what he''s talking about. MarcSchenker 5pts @Boo-urns @MarcSchenker I will work on my composition, Boo. I was in advertising and saw some great art directors in action and it boggles the mind that this magazine would get everything you said was wrong, wrong. It really kind of boggles the mind where these people get their artists. gyffesme 5pts @Northof53rd @MarcSchenker @morejunk Mad props to Wertheim (and Banks)! Northof53rd 5pts @MarcSchenker @morejunk @Northof53rd agreed; I do read him for NFL. and Wertheim for Tennis is also good MMoney0021 5pts @SportsGuru @MarcSchenker @MMoney0021 To add to that, the "he has no idea what he is talking about", usually comes from homer fans that pick their favorite team to win the SB every year. Its why its called predictions. MMoney0021 5pts @SportsGuru @MarcSchenker @MMoney0021 Considering 5 out of those 6 made the playoffs last year, a much improved KC team with an easy schedule, and a Bengals team who is bound to take a leap with Ravens and Steelers taking a step back. Your right, I have no idea what I am talking about. And I am not a Bengals fan.
